Ken Kwapis the director/producer who has directed several feature films and television episodes has signed on to direct NBC's untitled Sarah Silverman comedy pilot. The show is being produced by Imagine TV and 20th TV, with Kwapis' company, In Cahoots, signing a one-year, first-look deal with NBC;s sister studio Universal Television, which starts on June 1st.
Sarah Silverman's latest comedy is a pet project of Imagine head honcho Ron Howard and is loosely based on the comediennes life. It will star Silverman as a woman readjusting to the single life after a decade-long live-in relationship. Silverman has written the script with Dan Sterling and Jon Schroeder with Silverman, Sterling, Howard and Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo executive producing. Schroeder is also co-exec producing and the piece will see Kwapis, Silverman and NBC reunite after they made the 2000 comedy pilot Rocky Times which Sarah Silverman co-starred in.
Kwapis, Universal TV and NBC have recently worked together on comedy Outsourced last season but has also directed the pilots for such comedy series as NBC's The Office, Fox's The Bernie Mac Show and HBO's The Larry Sanders Show.
Kwapis has been a busy boy over the last few months with him and his In Cahoots partner Alexandra Beattie also recently selling two half hour project to Showtime. One, a dark comedy set in the world of modern advertising written by Shalom Auslander and the other a comedy about a young married couple exploring their open marriage, written by Sara Goodman.
Kwapis most recently a feature film, Big Miracle, that starred Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski that will open on February 3rd. Silverman has been seen in 2011's Peep World, Take THis Waltz, as well as a brief cameo in The Muppetts and will be seen in 2012's Disney animation Wreck It Ralph.
