Noreen Halpern, executive-turned-producer from EntertainmentOne, has joined forces with Canadian comedian and writer Bob Martin ('Puppets Who Kill') to develop a half-hour comedy series and produce a pilot.
Martin has been acting and writing on Canadian television for decades and has appeared most recently in 'Michael: Tuesdays and Thursdays.' He's perhaps best known for his turn on 'Slings & Arrows,' the madcap comedy about a Stratford Festival production of "Hamlet." What fans of his performance may not have realized is that he also wrote and created the hit series as a vehicle for Paul Gross.
Beyond the pairing of Halpern and Martin, the sale of the untitled comedy series is a collaborative purchase between ABC from the States and Canada's Shaw Media. The project is about a cartoonist who struggles to reconcile the idealized married life depicted in his comic strip with his own life--one that is populated by ex-spouses, children from three different marriages, and a wife who earns far more money than he does.
Martin is attached to the project to executive produce as well as write the pilot. Halpern will also executive produce as the project moves forward. As President of Dramatic Programming at EntertainmentOne, Halpern oversaw all of the label's scripted series--including 'Rookie Blue,' another project co-produced by Shaw Media.
More on this project as it develops.
