Gina Torres has proven she can handle any stretch as an actor: she portrayed a woman in the year 2525 ('Cleopatra 2525'), a contemporary spy ('Alias'), a staff-member at a weight-loss camp ('Huge'), and a friggin' Decepticon in 'Transformers Prime.'
But now... NBC has thrown Torres her next challenge... she will have to dig deep and find the inspiration to play... Laurence Fishburne's spouse.
See, the joke here is, Torres is Fishburne's spouse in real life.
'Hannibal' is an upcoming NBC series based on the character of Hannibal Lecter from the popular series of films. Opposite Mads Mikkelsen as Lecter, Fishburne plays FBI Agent Jack Crawford. Torres joins the cast as Crawford's wife. The protagonist of 'Hannibal,' FBI Agent Will Graham, is played by Hugh Dancy from 'The Big C.'
She has personal connections to the cast of 'Hannibal' beyond matrimony: Ellen Greene (also appearing in 'Hannibal') appeared with Torres in 'Pushing Daisies,' a series which, like 'Hannibal,' was created by Bryan Fuller. Fuller is a Wunderkind on the television circuit, having written and created series like 'Heroes,' 'Wonderfalls,' and 'Dead Like Me.' 'Hannibal' will mark his return to the writer's chair since both 'Heroes' and 'Pushing Daisies' ended in 2009.
'Hannibal' will debut on NBC midseason.
