A&E’s “Hoarders” may remove physical items from homes, making lives bearable to live again. However, what about the emotional baggage attached to most items? That’s where OWN’s “Extreme Clutter” steps in. The show follows organization expert Peter Walsh as he visits homes, removing items that are hard to part with because they hold bad memories.
Former child star Mackenzie Phillips will first appear on the two-hour premiere special. Over the years, Phillips has not been shy about her problems with addiction. She appeared on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab” to cope with her problem, and recently appeared on Oprah’s last season discussing her shocking tell-all biography. Everyone remembers the chilling moment when she revealed she had a sexual relationship with her famous father.
Walsh visits her home where he finds a number of items she is having trouble parting ways with. “I think it’s the last vestige of the junkie I use to be,” she explained. “Why am I hanging on to the past?” She responded when asked about her participation on the show. Two items the celeb points out is a doll that her father gave her and a pair of boots that held childhood memories for her.
The two manage to part ways with the items. “You let go of things that have negative power and keep things that fit into your future,” she said.
Find out what items Phillips keeps and which she pitches in the two-part premiere on OWN starting Jan. 1 at 11 p.m. The second half airs Jan. 2 at its permanent time slot, 10 p.m.
