FX's anthology series American Horror Story is returning for its second season tonight. Completely abandoning the storyline of the first season (which ended with the deaths of all three main characters), the second season will shift setting and characters, being set in a 1960s mental asylum run by nuns. Some actors from the first season will return: Jessica Lange stars as the head nun, while Zachary Quinto and others will appear in other such roles.
The second season, titled "Asylum," will have quite a few cast members. In addition to Lange and Quinto, the series will feature James Cromwell, Lilly Rabe, Chloe Sevigny, Joseph Fiennes, Adam Levine, and many more. The thirteen-episode season will feature various storylines set around the psychological horrors experienced by the patients in the asylum, and will reportedly feature an exorcism and other horror genre staples.
You can check out the creepy new trailer for the second season premiere, "Welcome to Briarcliff," below. The episode will introduce us to the occupants and employees of the Asylum, as well as a strange new potential plot element that you might not be expecting.
