Teen fashionistas will find a character to sympathize with on ABC Family’s new show “Jane By Design”. The story follows the adventures of Jane Quimby, played by Erica Dasher, an assistant to a fashion retailer played by Andie MacDowell. If you remember MacDowell as a sweetheart from films “Groundhog Day” and “Micheal” then you will be in for a surprise. On “Jane By Design” she will be channeling a boss that is more like Meryl Streep’s character in the “Devil Wears Prada”. I don’t know if I can reconcile the woman who sang about her love of pie with the antics of a demanding boss.
One reason why I am already digging the show is because it fillls a void left by “Ugly Betty”. That show combined humor with soap-opera antics and beautiful clothes. Along with the beautiful people who wear them. “Jane by Design” will be dishing up the latest fashion along with male leads Nick Roux and Matthew Atkinson.
Of course it wouldn’t be thew world of fashion without a rival. One appears in the character India Jourdain. Played by “One Tree Hill actress “ India De Beaufort. India will portray a rival to Andie MacDowell’s character Grey Murray.
Personally I think the biggest hurdle for the shows success is coming out of the shadow of “Devil Wears Prada”. This is the same stigma that has given the show “Smash” the title the Adult Glee. I am interested in seeing what a family version of of boss Miranda Priestly will be. What do you think she will be like? Here is the promo for you to watch.
“Jane by Design” is an interesting take on the coming of age story of a young woman. While the plot line may not be the most original it does shake up some of the previous efforts by focusing on the life of a teenager. Hopefully the audience agrees.
“Jane by Design” premieres on ABC Family January 3rd at 9 PM.
