Long before Drake was hitting the radio with his rap hits “Best I Ever Had” or “Find Your Love,” he was better known as Aubrey Graham, one of the stars of Degrassi: The Next Generation. He was making teen girls across Canada and the United States swoon as Jimmy Brooks, the basketball hopeful. Tragedy struck when a bullet hit his back during a school shooting, leaving Jimmy the first Degrassi student who was wheelchair bound. During his time on the show he dealt with average problems of teenagers such as losing his virginity, failing classes in school as well as complex issues such as stem cell implants and dealing with the physical limitations of his wheelchair.
Though Jimmy was a vital character on the show, Aubrey left the show to follow his budding dreams of rap stardom when Jimmy graduated from Degrassi. Though Jimmy made his way across the stage to get his diploma, Aubrey actually dropped out of high school to star in the teen drama. Now that he is focusing on his rap career, he felt it was time to return to school to complete his high school diploma- even if he‘s 25.
At a recent gala in New York for Tyra Banks’ foundation, Drake performed a handful of songs before announcing just the day before he had completed his last exams to graduate high school. Earlier in the day he went to Twitter to share the news.
"97% on my final exam," he tweeted. "88% in the course. One of the greatest feelings in my entire life. As of tonight I have graduated high school ... Thank you to my teacher Kim Janzen for spending the last 5 months working tirelessly with me!! OVO SOUND."
Congratulations to the new high school graduate!
