Watching Melissa Rycroft on Monday’s Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars you would never guess that she fell during rehearsal and encountered an injury so serious that it risked her future in the competition. Over the weekend Rycroft was practicing with dancing pro Tony Dovolani when she made a small mistake that put her in excruciating pain.
“I was sliding through his legs. I had momentum going forward, my feet got stuck, I think on the rubber [of] my tennis shoes and it stopped my momentum, but my neck just continued and jammed backward and it cracked a few times,” she told Access Hollywood. The pain was immediate. “[The doctors] said that what I felt was disc fluid leaving my neck and that caused the sharp pain.”
Despite hernia ting discs in her neck she competed with her partner, earning 29.5 out of 30 for their team dance to Cary Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.” Before taking stage she told everyone that doctors cleared her to dance. “I’m on a little medication right now,” she shared.
Though her team did so well, due to the presidential debate there was no elimination this week on DWTS. The competition continues next week as fans prepare to say goodbye to the next couple on Tuesday’s results show.
