The success of HBO's fantasy drama Game of Thrones hasn't gone unnoticed by other networks. The CW announced on Tuesday that it was developing new series Reign, a drama series about the teenage years of the famous monarch, Mary, Queen of Scots.
According to Deadline, Reign will be "Game Of Thrones meets Marie Antoinette — if Marie Antoinette had a girl posse and was coming of age as a warrior queen. It’s about the secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes, dark forces, and a world of sexual intrigue."
The series is being created by Laurie McCarthy (CSI: Miami) and Stephanie SenGupta (Outlaw), alongside new project The Selection, a series largely reminiscent of The Hunger Games.
The series certainly sounds interesting -- the CW, despite being largely directed toward a young female audience, is really the only bastion of genre on network television. I'm not quite sure if I'm yet convinced enough to be excited, but you can color me intrigued. If they bring in some of the modern stylization that made Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette so unique, I'll be even more interested.
