TBS has a long-standing tradition of running a 24-hour marathon of the classic 80's film "A Christmas Story" on its titular holiday, and now sister network TNT is aiming to start a similar tradition for all us monster lovers on Halloween. Well, at least the weekend before Halloween. The cable giant announced plans to air 24 straight episodes of popular CW series Supernatural, re-runs of which TNT has broadcast for the past few years.
The marathon is set to include episodes from the first six seasons, although the episodes aren't chronological, and seem to be scheduled in season specific blocks of time. The first three episodes are from season four, the next five from season five (my personal favorite season), the five after that from season six, then a series of episodes from seasons one-four.
As a fan since the beginning, I have to applaud whatever TNT employee programmed this marathon. The episode selection is terrific, and makes for a nicely varied lineup. In fact, since 95% of the episodes chosen are of the standalone, non-mythology variety, this marathon would serve as an excellent primer to anyone interested in the series that has yet to watch. All of these could easily be enjoyed by someone who has never seen the show before, and I wouldn't be surprised if a few people become fans this weekend. While us diehards could certainly enjoy it too, this seems to have been programmed toward the Winchester newbie, and that's perfectly fine. People like me already have the whole series on Blu-Ray or DVD anyway.
Here's the full schedule of episodes, taken straight from the TNT press release:
