Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) has already signed up for Joss Whedon's Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D., which, if you saw The Avengers over the summer, you know is an interesting development. But Coulson is just one man and cannot fight bad people on his own.
The cavalry is on its way, as ER alum Ming-Na Wen has signed on to be one of the series leads. Wen will play Agent Melinda May, a fantastic pilot who is haunted by her previous combat experiences. May is also described as a weapons expert and willing to go beyond the call of duty when the need arises.
Wen has also appeared on Eureka and Stargate Universe.
Whedon is writing the script with his brother Jed and Maurissa Tancharoen. All three will executive produce, as well as Jeffrey Bell and Marvel's Jeph Loeb.
The program is being developed cooperatively from Marvel TV and ABC TV Studios, which are both owned by The Walt Disney Company.
I am pretty intrigued by this project and the scope it is going to undertake. Will it feature Marvel villains? If so, will it include lesser Marvel heroes? I am guessing the actors who play the Avengers are not interested in doing it on TV as well. Or will it be more of a 24-type series, with "realistic" plots?
Yes, I did just refer to 24 as having realistic plots. It's still real to me, dammit!
