One of MTV’s downfalls with Punk’d was the show got old. Each week it was as if the same people were pulling the same pranks on similar celebrities. Over time, viewers grew bored with the show and tuned into other programs. Ashton Kutcher and B.J. Novak were also involved with other projects that shot them into superstardom.
It’s been four years since Punk’d aired on MTV. In March, the show will return completely revamped. Your favorite punk d pranks will appear on the show, but Kutcher will not host the show or even take part in the practical jokes.
MTV announced on their annual New Year’s Eve program that the new Punk’d will feature a different celebrity host each week. Other celebrities will then complete the punk d jokes on their friends. “There’s a new generation of suckers just waiting to be Punk’d by their famous friends, and fans will once again have a front row seat to see the shock on the faces of their famous friends,” the president of MTVN Music Group, Von Toffler, told reporters.
Miley Cyrus will be the first celebrity host. Fans can get a peak of the first punk-ing here. Kelly Osbourne surprises an unexpecting Khloe Kardashian. Justin Bieber, Kellan Lutz, Dax Shepherd and Bam Margera will all appear as celebrity hosts this winter.
During the first four years of Punk’d a number of pranks were memorable for the reactions, and the way things don’t always go right. Remember when the Punk’d crew meant to blow up a replica of wrestler Goldberg’s motorcycle? They actually blew up the real thing! Zac Braff also admitted that he almost “pummeled” a 12-year-old he caught vandalizing his car.
One can hope that some Punk’d favorites return, such as Justin Timberlake. If you miss Novak from the crew, just tune into NBC’s “The Office” on Thursday night. Kutcher isn’t far away either! He stars in CBS’ “Two and a Half Men” on Monday nights.
