Any fan of World Wrestling Entertainment has seen this scenario play out on the USA Network's Monday Night Raw telecast at some point: two opposing personalities with seemingly little in common are paired together as a tag team and whacky hijinx ensue. Now, a similar mismatched bond has been forged between the sports entertainment conglomerate's WWE Studios and ABC Family on a made-for-television movie entitled Christmas Bounty.
Starring WWE superstar The Miz, the action comedy is being developed for the 2013 holiday season as part of ABC Family's 25 Days Of Christmas programming block. Scheduled to begin production early in the new year, the film will tell the story of a former bounty hunter turned elementary school teacher who must resume her previous occupation in order to save the family business. That's right, it's a "her," not The Miz. There are no details on his role, and the female lead hasn't been cast yet either.
Under his real name of Michael Mizanin, The Miz was a competitor on MTV's The Real World: Back To New York and its spinoff series Real World/Road Rules Challenge. When he joined the WWE/MTV reality show Tough Enough in 2004, Mizanin impressed WWE brass and earned a contract with the company even after losing the competition. Since then, he has been involved in some high-profile match-ups including the main event of last year's WrestleMania XXVII, where he was victorious over John Cena after The Rock got involved.
This year, The Miz branched out into feature films when he replaced fellow WWE superstar Randy Orton in the lead role of The Marine 3: Homeland and starred in Queen Of The Ring, both from WWE Studios.
This seems like an odd partnership on the surface, but WWE has been targeting families and children for years now, so it makes sense from that perspective. Are you interested in a sure-to-be heartwarming Christmas flick from WWE Studios, starring The Miz?
