Nothing is off limits on NBC’s comedy “30 Rock,” even Kim Jong-II’s death. Last season Avery (Elizabeth Banks) went on assignment in North Korea after giving birth to Jack (Alex Baldwin) and her baby. While on location, she was kidnapped and forced into marriage with Jong-II’s son. This was the last we’d hear of Avery for the season, despite leaving her daughter behind in America. Despite being one of “30 Rock’s” most shocking and awkward storylines, the dictator’s death will be addressed in the upcoming season.
Executive Producer Robert Carlock told US Weekly that the writers had to return to the scripts. “We sort of went back to the script, because we'd already shot eight or nine episodes, and we realized that luckily we hadn't referred to Kim Jong-Il by name yet — just to North Korea in general,"he said. "We can't go back and address the changes there, but the fun puzzle is turning around and trying to figure out how to get her out of there and how to continue things." Carlock did confirm that Margaret Cho would return to play the deceased leader.
Jack’s been working on moving on with his life, but does this mean that Avery will return to shake things up? So far previews show him trying to be a good single father for his daughter, despite help from his nanny. We can guarantee one thing- this secret Liz Lemon has that we’re all dying to know will not be Avery’s return.
However, it’s likely we can expect Banks to return to the show for at the least a short cameo. She is the one that Jack loves most and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, even if they had to keep her pregnancy under wraps.
