Day-by-day, the probe into former BBC host Jimmy Saville and the sexual abuses he is charged with grows larger in scope. Today, British comedian Freddie Starr was detained by English police for information that apparently came up during the probe.
A woman told ITV News that she was "horribly, horribly humiliated by Freddie Starr, who had a very bad attack of wandering hands and had groped me." Starr has denied all the charges. Starr, who is known for his observational and insulting comedic style, follows last weekend's arrest of musician Gary Glitter.
Scotland Yard says that the scope of the investigation could touch as many as 300 abuse victims. Shocking information really. In America, we all lived through the Jerry Sandusky nightmare. Adults, stop touching children and get help.
The BBC has been shaken by this scandal. Apparently its leadership ignored warning signs while Saville hosted the music charts series Top of the Pops. The BBC has conducted two internal probes since this mess became news.
It is a shame to say, but this seems like it is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. I mean, 300 potential victims? Starr and Glitter aren't likely to be the last two implicated in this mess, I'd imagine.
