It seems that every day I get to hop on to TVRage and tell you all about the next exciting development with CW's smash-hit 'Arrow!' Well considering the ratings have continued to swell for the series, I imagine we'll keep hearing about Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen for some time. Last night, the fifth episode of the show, entitled "Damaged," gave us our first peek at Oliver's past with none other than Deathstroke the Terminator. And the episode was a great one, as our excellent 'Arrow' reviewer Kale Morgan tells us here.
Deathstroke appeared very faithful to his DC Comics roots in the episode, a surefire way to please Green Arrow fans in comic shops across America. But the next big villain being brought in to Oliver's Starling City may not be adapted quite so faithfully... and that may be a very good decision.
TVLine's sources are reporting that the next major villain coming to 'Arrow' is none other than Count Vertigo.
In the comic books, Count Vertigo is a royal descendant of the throne of Vlatava; he has the super-powered ability to warp people's thoughts and minds with his own. The character was introduced in 1978 and immediately became an arch adversary to our beloved archer (as well as The Black Canary... 'Arrow' fans who don't want to be spoiled should not look up The Black Canary). Count Vertigo later joined the Suicide Squad, a team of insane baddies in the DCU. He also sported a pretty impressive and impossible cape, as you can see.
Understandably, the character will have to be tweaked in order to fit in to 'Arrow's quasi-believable Starling City. What we know so far is that the name 'Vertigo' will belong to a new drug awash in the city streets, which the villainous Count will likely be the mastermind behind. Word coming out of the 'Arrow' camp is that Count Vertigo will be "Oliver's deadliest adversary to date; he will be truly scary and nightmarish."
Well good, because the only thing truly nightmarish about the picture to the left would be the Count's drycleaning bill.
The character has previously appeared in 'Batman: The Animated Series' as well as 'Young Justice.' This will mark the first attempt to bring Count Vertigo to live-action. No word on casting as of yet; stick with TVRage for more as this budding story develops!
'Arrow' airs Wednesdays at 8:00pm on the CW.
