Disney adapting Big Thunder Mountain

BTM

The Disney news we have all been anxiously awaiting is finally here!

ABC is working on a new series based on Big Thunder Mountain, a Western-themed ride at all four Disney parks around the world. What, you thought I was talking about lightsabres?

The series, creatively titled Big Thunder Mountain, will be co-written by Chris Morgan and Jason Fuchs. Morgan wrote Fast Five, while Fuchs is best known for Ice Age: Continental Drift.

Details are being kept quiet at this point. We here at TVRage can exclusively report that the show will not be the same people riding the ride over and over. You heard it here first!

Big Thunder Mountain (the ride) takes visitors to a mining town during the gold rush in the American southwest. Suddenly disaster strikes, as an earthquake (Anaheim, Paris), a tsunami (Tokyo) or flash flood (Orlando) sends riders on a great journey.

Disney theme park rides becoming entertainment projects is not a new idea. The Haunted Mansion, the Matterhorn, the Country Bears, Jungle Cruise and Mission to Mars have all been developed for the big screen. Of yeah, they did a small art house film about Pirates of the Caribbean too.

Disney is also developing Magic Kingdom, a movie set entirely in one of their parks. The film is being worked on by Michael Chabon and Jon Favreau.

What do you think? Are you going to ride?
