The People’s Choice Awards airs tonight on CBS, and though it was earlier speculated that Katy Perry would make her first public appearance since splitting with husband Russell Brand, the popstar informed fans she had to skip out on the awards show.
“Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People’s Choice Awards,” she tweeted. “I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS” Perry is nominated for seven awards total, including a nod for her guest starring role on CBS’s sitcom “How I Met Your Mother.” The news isn’t surprising since Brand filed for divorce just a little over a week ago from the “Teenage Dream” singer. In recent days she’s used Twitter as a way to reach out to her fans, thanking them for her support. She also lashed out at the media and her family for talking about her private life, telling fans the only information they should listen to is that from her directly.
People’s Choice producer Mark Burnett told E! News he’s not surprised or upset with her decision to not appear. “It’s understandable, things like this happen all the time,” he said. He added that there was plenty of other reasons to tune in. Such as the unlikely seat pairing of “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson and Betty White in the front row. “The show is so jam-packed, you’re thinking how are we going to fit it all in.”
“Big Bang Theory” star Kaley Cuoco is hosting the annual event, joking that it is her practice for hosting “Saturday Night Live.” She went as far to say “That is my ultimate goal in my career- to host SNL.”
The People’s Choice Awards air tonight on CBS at 8/7c.
