Since the end of WB’s Dawson’s Creek, James Van Der Beek saw moderate success on the big screen, but has yet to make a TV comeback. This winter he’s hoping for a successful run on ABC’s “Don’t Trust the B***h in Apartment 23.” The sitcom follows the life of Chloe or “the b***h” and her best friend, James Van Der Beek. Yes, that’s right.. He will play himself.
"I had to audition against six other James Van Der Beek for this role. I was lucky that four of them weren't actors and two of them didn't speak English," Van Der Beek joked at the Television Critics Association winter preview party. He finds playing himself humorous and fun. “It's a lot more fun to not take myself so seriously."
Van Der Beek plays a “coddled star” who uses his past stardom to get girls into bed and help Chloe whenever he can. "This character is just kinda crazy," he shared. Sounds an awful lot like the James Van Der Beek character (also played by himself) in Kevin Smith’s “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.” Is he trying to tell us something?
Not only is Chloe and Van Der Beek best friends on the show, but her roommate is a huge Dawson’s Creek fan. Despite his importance to the show, he wants viewers to know it’s not a “James Van Der Beek Show” and he’s simply just one of the cast.
Perhaps one of the most promising storylines is Van Der Beek poking fun at Dancing With the Stars. The celeb gets desperate and joins the cast to get his name back out there. The truth is Van Der Beek has turned down the opportunity many times. Perhaps this will interest him truly participating?
