Country superstar and "American Idol" judge Keith Urban is a busy, busy man.
While the new season won't kick off until January 16th, and the live performances several weeks after that, Urban is staying busy with numerous other projects. The singer is grateful for "American Idol"'s staggered audition schedule, as in addition to hosting duties he is also currently juggling recording his next album, prepping for a summer 2013 North American concert tour, and flying to France to be with actress wife Nicole Kidman on the set of her new film "Grace of Monaco."
"As best we can, we've been able to navigate through the audition process," Urban said. "The good thing is that the auditions aren't like weeks and weeks. We'll do two days somewhere, then two days somewhere else, and they're not often strung together. Sometimes, it's been a couple of weeks between cities."
Indeed, Urban acknowledges that the series both boosts his profile while allowing him to pursue other opportunities. "I was reading an article about Steven Tyler the other day, and he was saying the same thing. The fortuitousness of the 'Idol' schedule is that it still allows you to keep your real job. Aerosmith was making its latest record while he was doing 'Idol,' because of how the schedule rolls," he explained.
Has the audition process and hectic outside schedule had an impact on his upcoming album? Urban confirmed, "I respond, always, to what's going in in my life and where I'm at. Already, there's a particular energy about this record that I don't know how to describe."
