Jason Segel plays that lovable, sensible guy on “How I Met Your Mother” because he really is that way in real life. At least that what co-star Neil Patrick Harris says. Chelsea Gill is a Segel-Super Fan who posted a song on YouTue asking Jason Segel out for a drink. Segel saw the video and invited the Chicago native to be his date at the Chicago Film Critic Awards last weekend.
Harris told AccessHollywood.com that he’s not surprised that Segel went through all the trouble to connect with his fan. “Jason’s a super lovely guy,” he said. “He does stuff like that, and authentically. It wasn’t for any kind of agenda. Cobie Smulders agreed adding that he’s the “nicest man alive.”
Now that one fan’s dream came true, Harris wouldn’t be surprised if hundreds of other requests filtered in. Harris thinks Segel can handle the attention. “The trouble with Twitter is, you answer one question on Twitter, then for the next for days you get nothin’ but questions,” he said. “But, I’m sure Jason would like lots of dates – he’s a raconteur!”
Sounds an awful lot like the film “Win a Date With Tad Hamilton,” you know the cheesey romantic comedy when an ordinary grocery clerk wins a date with movie star Tad Hamilton (one of Josh Duhammel’s first roles). Did the sparks fly that night? Only the two will know.
Segel on the other hand just confirmed at the Television Critics Association’s winter preview that he will be back for “How I Met Your Mother” even after his contract runs out. “I really agree that I'd like to see the story come to its natural end, whether it's 8 years or 9 years. I was so relieved when I found out there was an actual plan,” he joked.
