TV Land's best original sitcom is returning with a bang for it's season four summer premiere in 2013. The first summer episode of the season will be a double-sized live broadcast of the fan-favorite sitcom.
June 19, 2013 will see the special episode air live at 10pm ET, with the West Coast receiving a live-taped feed at 10pm PT. TV Land President Larry W. Jones was eager to hype the announced undertaking: "This is going to be big. We’ve got true sitcom veterans with the cast of 'Hot in Cleveland' and I can’t wait to see what unfolds."
Calling the four women who comprise the main cast of 'Cleveland' "sitcom veterans" may be an understatement: these ladies are sitcom goddesses. Wendie Malick is a household name thanks to her roles on 'Just Shoot Me!' and 'Frasier.' Jane Leeves was 'Frasier's Daphne Moon before joining Malick on 'Cleveland.' Valerie Bertinelli was beloved on 'Cafe Americain' and 'Touched By an Angel'... and then we have the incomparable Betty White.
White has been banking massive television laughs since 'Life with Elizabeth' and 'Date with the Angels' back in the 1950s. Rising to superstardom on 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' in the 1970s, White hasn't taken a break since. The actress will be NINETY-ONE years old when the live supersized 'Hot in Cleveland' airs in 2013, making this undertaking all the more impressive. Heck, she proved she still has the chops and timing for live television when she hosted 'Saturday Night Live' last season (doing a much better job than most hosts a quarter of her age, I might add).
'Hot in Cleveland's live event follows other multi-camera sitcoms like 'The Drew Carey Show' which also broadcast live, as well as '30 Rock,' which transitioned to a multi-camera format for their live offerings. There is a particular interest and zest added when you know a show is live, a fact that FOX is banking on for their new series, currently in development, called 'Live From Our Living Room;' the gimmick of the FOX show is that it will be broadcast live each and every week.
'Hot in Cleveland' returns for the fall portion of its fourth season on TV Land at the end of November.
