Last night’s 40th annual American Music Awards brought the big time music stars to the stage to accept awards for their musical talents and contributions. The night featured performances from the likes of Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jespen, Psy, Usher and Kelly Clarkson, but the main attraction of the show was none other than teen sensation and heartthrob Justin Bieber.
Bieber, whose latest album “Believe” was released on June 15th 2012, took home three prizes last night, including Favorite Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Album and Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist. Bieber also performed two songs on stage from his Platinum “Believe” album, which sold over 374,000 copies in its first week. The newly single teen brought his mom, Pattie Mallette, as his date to the show whom he thanked for her unwavering support in his acceptance speech, adding “to all the haters who thought that I was just here for one or two years - I'm going to be here for a very long time."
Other big winners included New Artist of the Year Carly Rae Jespen, whose single “Call Me Maybe” was the biggest hit of the summer; all-star female Katy Perry for Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist; and Rihanna, who took home the prize for Favorite Soul/R&B Album. To nobody’s surprise, Taylor Swift made it a clean five year winning streak as Favorite Country Female Artist.
The night was full of energy, music and glam and it is obvious that this year youthful talent and fresh new faces were the winning combinations.
