TCM to play Carson interviews

Here's Johnny!
Turner Classic Movies is going back, to the future. The channel has worked out a deal for a new series titled "Carson on TCM," which will air some of the greatest Johnny Carson interviews from his three-decade long run as the host of NBC's The Tonight Show.
Fifty interviews have been licensed from the Carson Entertainment Group archives. Many of these interviews have not aired since they were originally broadcast.
Among the stars feature in the interviews are Truman Capote, Elizabeth Taylor, Bette Davis, Kirk Douglas, Henry Fonda, Gregory Peck, William Holden, James Stewart, Mel Brooks, Susan Sarandon, Sally Field, Ronald Reagan, Burt Reynolds, Drew Barrymore (at 7-years-old) and Carol Burnett (and many more).

“What Johnny did better than anyone was to engage his guests in wonderful conversation,” said filmmaker Peter Jones, who will curate the series. “I heard from many of the people who appeared on The Tonight Show over the years that Johnny had the ability to bring out the best in the people he interviewed. He listened carefully and made his guests feel as though they were simply talking to a friend.”

The series will kick off as five-interview showcases, before evolving into single-interview interstitials featuring stars and their films that air on TCM.

“Johnny Carson set the gold standard for generations of talk show hosts with his candid, funny and often very revealing interviews with everyone from legendary screen icons to young newcomers," said Tom Brown, TCM vice president of original production. “Carson on TCM offers classic movie fans the perfect chance to see their favorite stars chatting with one of the most beloved figures in television history.”
