Fox’s “New Girl” celebrated Thanksgiving with a light-hearted episode featuring some major guest stars.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner played Jess’ divorced parents, who their daughter tried to “Parent Trap” for the umpteenth time. Jess thought it had worked, but her parents convinced her they did not in fact reunite, though we know better. I did like the flashbacks of her previous attempts to do so, like a setup in her room using Vanessa Williams’ “Save the Best for Last.” Mama Day also holds a grudge against Cece for getting her little girl high many moons earlier.
In a subplot, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) was also visited by his ex-Marine cousin (Rob Riggle), who also goes by Schmidt. Winston (Lamorne Morris) hilariously pitted them against each other for his own amusement, including a cooking contest. The smaller Schmidt balked at a dare to kiss Winston, while the other went through with it, leading to them making up.
I think this was kind of a placeholder episode, using some stunt-casting to maybe get an audience on a week where viewers might be preoccupied. Hopefully next week the show will be back to business, and Carla Guigino will be back sexually harassing Little Schmidt. We can only hope.
