Katy Perry's loss continues to be FX's gain.
The network has renewed its commitment to Russell Brand and his series, 'BrandX," as well as "Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell." Both series air late at night on the network, as the network looks to expand its reach into the wee hours of the night.
Each series had 13 additional episodes ordered, with BrandX being expanded by 30 minutes, from a half hour to a full hour. Tim Goodman, a critic at The Hollywood Reporter, called for the move earlier in the season, saying that "FX's foray into late night is a great idea, and Brand's lightening-quick take on issues of the day is both funny and, yes, insightful. If only the show were an hour."
The show will end its 2012 run with an hour-long special November 29 featuring Sarah Silverman and philosopher Daniel Pinchbeck. Upon its return February 7, 2013, at 11:30 p.m. it will be a full-hour regularly.
“We’re proud to have two of the most strikingly original and funny voices in late night as part of the FX comedy lineup,” said FX's EVP of Original Programming Nick Grad. “Russell’s irrepressible energy and unique style have made BrandX a daring show where anything can happen. Kamau is one of the sharpest, smartest and funniest comedians in the business. The New York Times called him ‘the most promising talent in political comedy in many years,’ and we couldn’t agree more.”
I am a big fan of Brand and forgot the show aired before seeing the clips from his episode with the Westboro Baptist Church. Have any of you readers seen the show? Is it any good?
The show is definitely unique and fun - not the typical boring late night talk shows we see on the major networks. I'm glad. Russell Brand goes all out, with his guests, the audience, and even on the topics of today. No holds barred.
I was surprised with the last episode being an hour, and was glad. Much more was covered and it didn't seem as rushed.
It's funny how the show progressed from the little hole in the wall location, to a larger set, and now, expanded time slot and more episodes.
