No wonder Sesame Street kicked Kevin Clash to the curb. For the third time in two weeks, the long-time Elmo puppeteer has been accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with an underage male.
Identifying himself only as "John," a 28-year-old man filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Kevin Clash, claiming that they met on a gay phone chat line in 2000 when Clash was 40 and "John" was only 16. An aspiring model from New Jersey at the time, John says he was invited to visit Clash's luxurious Manhattan apartment while he was in New York City to pursue modeling opportunities. Once he arrived at the apartment, which was covered in Elmo paraphernalia and photographs of the furry red puppet posing with celebrities such as Beyonce and Tyra Banks, John states that Clash served him alcohol and had sexual contact with him. Although he claims that Clash called him "incessantly" after their first meeting to arrange further encounters, John did not see the famous puppeteer again until he graduated high school and moved to New York after he turned 18. At that point, they resumed a sexual relationship.
Last week, Clash resigned from his position with Sesame Workshop after 24-year-old Cecil Singleton came forward with allegations that he met Clash on a gay chat line when he was 15 and engaged in sexual activity with the much older man. Earlier this month, 23-year-old Sheldon Stephens was the first man to level similar charges against the 52-year-old Clash, but recanted his story after settling out of court.
It's possible that these guys could be in it for some of that sweet Sesame Street cash, but it seems as if Mr. Clash has made his share of questionable decisions. What do you think is going on here?
