“Boy Meets World” fans may be disappointed to hear that everyone’s favorite 90’s best friend and side kick, Shawn Hunter, currently has no plans to be a cast member on the much anticipated “Girl Meets World”.
As much as everyone would love to see Rider Strong return as loveable “Uncle Shawn” on the modern continuation of the TGIF show, it seems that there are no current plans to have his character return. “Girl Meets World” will follow grown up Corey and Topanga along with their 13 year old daughter Riley and will be aired on the Disney Channel. Fans can expect “the same honesty and intelligence” from the new show, according to Danielle Fishel, who plays Topanga.
When asked about his involvement with the new show, Rider Strong had this to say on his website; “At this point, I have no official involvement”. He also added that he was extremely happy that Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will be “able to continue the story” as Cory and Topanga in a new generation.
Before fans of the bad boy best friend get too sad, Strong also added that this does not mean that he may not play a role in the future of the show, even as a guest. “There might be a chance to see some of the BMW cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years. Girl Meets World will be, and I think it should be, its own show. It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter and a new set of characters.”
I think that it would be nice to dedicate some parts of the show to returning cast members from “Boy Meets World” as a tip of the hat to fans who watched the original series. I wouldn’t mind seeing Eric Matthews or the ever wise Mr. Feeny return to impart some wisdom on young Riley. With William Daniels (Mr. Feeny) making a recent guest appearance on “Grey’s Anatomy”, I guess that anything is possible.
