It seems Nick Lachey is back again, trying his hand once more at hosting a singing competition series after his time as host of “Sing-Off” from 2009 to 2011. While “Sing-Off” featured a-capella groups singing live, “The Winner Is” will feature singers of all ages and genres who will be battling it out in front of a live studio audience.
By now, Lachey is a fairly seasoned host, and NBC alternative late-night programming president Paul Telegdy has high hopes for the new show and the experience Lachey will bring to the stage. "With Nick at the helm on air and an original format from Talpa that includes surprising and competitive twists, viewers are sure to be immersed and entertained."
He is referring to Talpa Media USA, with whom John de Mol (creator of “The Voice”) resides, who will be jumping on board to executive produce “The Winner Is”.
The show will be set up in a singing duel format. After each performance, a panel of judges led by a celebrity judge (yet to be announced) will form their opinions. Then, the contestants will “have the option to cut a deal”. If they feel that their fellow competitor performed better than them, they can leave the stage in exchange for cash. However, if they choose to remain, the will see the results of the judging and see if they have made it to the next round. The ultimate goal is to win the $1 million dollar cash prize.
Auditions for the series will be held in Raleigh, N.C., Houston, Seattle and Philadelphia, and you can find the details for yourself at www.singinggameshow.com.
