It has been no secret that our neighbors to the north harbor a jealously towards their American counterparts. Why? I mean, they certainly got the better side of Niagara Falls but you do not see Americans up in arms about that. No, the true reason is something much simpler - Canadians are jealous of the fact that they have never had their own version of 'The Amazing Race.' A new days is here though and now tensions can subside, as CTV, which has aired all 21 seasons of the CBS series, has ordered a local version after getting the format rights from Disney-ABC Domestic Television.
'The Amazing Race Canada' is expected to fill the summer reality TV spot in Canadian hearts that has been previously filled by 'So You Think You Can Dance Canada' and 'Canadian Idol.'
“Canadians deserve their own summer version, distinct from what is seen in fall and winter. With the incredible diversity, scope, beauty, and sheer land mass that Canada has to offer,” Phil King, president of CTV programming and sports, said, while eating some poutine and making Kraft dinner. Okay, I cannot back up those claims.
The series will be produced by Indie Insight Productions and will be the 12th international version of the series to launch outside of America. The other series have been in Asia, Brazil, China, France, Latin America and Vietnam (?).
