United Kingdom audiences are getting more 'Rizzoli & Isles' in their lives.
UKTV, a multi-channel network operator, has signed a deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution to send more seasons of the Boston cop drama across the Atlantic Ocean.
Alibi, UKTV's channel for British and American crime drama, will begin airing the third season of the drama in January 2013. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The series is based on Tess Gerritsen's crime novels and stars Angie Harmon (Law & Order) as detective Jane Rizzoli and Sasha Alexander (NCIS) as medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles. The two women work together and have put some of Boston's crime elite in prison.
UKTV began airing the first season of the show last year and said that the ratings an interest in the show has consistently risen since its debut. The second season drew an average of nearly 500,000 viewers, up 482 (yes, 482) percent on the time slot average and up 26 percent from the first season's numbers.
UKTV head of acquisitions and co-productions Alexandra Finlay said that, "Rizzoli and Isles has been a big success both Stateside and in the U.K., so this strategic deal with Warner Bros further strengthens Alibi, helping to ensure it remains a must-have channel for all fans of crime drama."
Warner Bros. International Television president Jeffrey R. Schlesinger added that, "We are pleased that Rizzoli and Isles will continue to have a home in the UK on Alibi, where it has consistently been a strong performer."
