The hunt is over! Mary Grill has won the major recurring role in upcoming episodes of FOX's hit comedy 'The Mindy Project.'
Grill will be introduced as Maggie, the tomboyish College friend of leading lady Mindy's (played by series creator and writer, Mindy Kaling). News of Grill's casting follows immediately after the announcement that 'The Office' alum BJ Novak, a producer on 'Project,' has been cast in a guest starring role for a handful of episodes as a possible romantic interest of Mindy's.
The introduction of the Maggie character is part of a major series overhaul halfway through 'The Mindy Project's freshman season, which also includes the elimination of recurring characters played by Amanda Setton and Stephen Tobolowsky. The downgrade of Anna Camp's character from regular to recurring completes the overhaul.
Mary Grill is well-versed in improvisational and sketch comedy, as a past member of Second City, Chicago. She is a member of the New York City-based sketch team New Excitement and is coming off of roles on 'Boardwalk Empire' and a yet-to-air guest appearance on 'Don't Trust the B---- in Apt 23.'
Expect Maggie to join 'Mindy' in early 2013.
