We get a double dose of FX's "The League" this week, and thankfully they were both terrific efforts.
To start, the showrunners know how to hook the viewers from the beginning, as Nadine Velazquez shows off her bare ass. At this point, I could just end this review because really you're all scrambling to Google Image Search for pictures (and rightly so).
After seeing his wife's altered pubic grooming, Ruxin fears that she is losing interest in their marriage. "Can you blame her? She looks like she belongs on a beer poster and I look like the guy who makes you answer riddles before you cross a bridge?" He resolves to pursue an anchor baby -- getting her pregnant, ruining her self esteem for approximately two years, at which point she will think that she's better off to just stick with the marriage rather than seek other options.
The side story features Pete dealing with an acquaintance he can't seem to shake. So, you know when you meet with a friend and one of his friends comes along who you don't know very well, then your friend leaves you alone with his friend, resulting in much discomfort and awkward conversation? "The League" has given a term for that, dubbing it 'the friend off'. Pete gets saddled with d-bag Lane, fumbling a friend off to Andre.
Elsewhere, Taco rents/squats at the home office of a deceased therapist, inadvertantly taking his patients as well. The resulting denigration of Andre after his overheard therapy session with Dr. Taco is more sad than funny, although there are plenty of gems from the lovable loser.
Overall, the lesser of the two episodes in last night's double header, but still a decent effort.
Final Grade: B for the episode, A+ for the ass
