ABC has taken a pass on a comedy pilot starring John Leguizamo.
“Kings of Van Nuys” was the second pilot for the multi- camera project, which was based on the UK’s “Only Fools and Horses,” which got a pilot last year but missed the cut. ABC chief Paul Lee, though, liked it enough to reorder a retooled version.
Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley wrote the original pilot and the new version. Most of the team from the first pilot returned for the new version, which got a green light in August.
ABC decided not to move forward, but the good news is the cast will be available for this coming pilot season.
“Kings of Van Nuys” followed two street- wise brothers Del (played by Leguizamo) and Rodney (played by Dustin Ybarra) and their misadventures with their grandfather (played by Christopher Lloyd). The three hatch get-rich-quick schemes to try to become millionaires. Wendy McLendon- Covey (“Bridesmaids”) and BJ Bales also starred in the pilot.
Leguizamo has appeared in “Summer of Sam,” “The Happening” and had an arc on “ER.” Ybarra was in the series “Glory Daze” and appeared in “We Bought a Zoo.” Lloyd has appeared in countless projects, including “Taxi” and the “Back to the Future” trilogy.
