Sugar Bear is having a rough few months.
The father figure of the Thompson clan on TLC's smash hit (sigh, America, sigh) 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,' Sugar Bear (real name Mike Thompson) had a health scare yesterday during his family's Christmas toy drive.
The 40-year-old has a history of high blood pressure and apparently that is what led to paramedics being called to the home in McIntyre, Georgia (let me cross that off my list of cities to ever visit). Sugar Bear was dressed up as Santa Claus and greeting and entertaining neighborhood children during the event, which the family does annually.
"Usually you're allowed to sit on Sugar Bear's lap," said a person with experience visiting the Thompson's toy drive. "But he was not feeling well ... they were worried his blood pressure was getting high. An ambulance was called to the house, but he was not taken off in it, [he] just got checked out by paramedics."
For Sugar Bear, it marks the second incident in three months, as he was hospitalized in September for a leg infection after he got into an ATV accident while "muddin". Doctors thought there was a chance the limb would need to be amputated.
