“Grey’s Anatomy’s” showrunner responds tonight on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” to hurtful comments made by a former star of the show.

Katherine Heigl said in 2008 that she wanted her name removed from Emmy consideration because she had not been “given the material to warrant a nomination” that year, commenting on the show’s writing.
Oprah Winfrey on the show asked Shonda Rhimes how that felt. She said she struggled for a long time about how to be a creative person and artist, and also manage people and have to lead people, and that she is most proud of figuring that out.
“On some level it stung, and one some level I was not surprised,” Rhimes said. “When people say who they are, believe them. I carry that with me a lot. It has served me well.”
Grimes also created “Private Practice” and “Scandal.” Heigl played Izzy Stevens on the show from 2005 to 2010. She has since appeared in a string of films, including “The Ugly Truth,” “Killers,” “Knocked Up” and “Life As We Know It.”
