Oxygen announced that The Glee Project will return this summer. The second season will premiere in June or July on the cable network. Last season, The Glee Project was one of the biggest new reality shows on cable, drawing in almost two million viewers each week as American helped choose the next Glee star.
Unlike last season, The Glee Project follows 14 hopefuls as they compete for a guest starring role on Fox’s Glee. Last year only 12 contestants were in the competition. Two winners receive a seven-episode run on the Fox hit, while two runner-ups appear in two episodes of the show. Lindsay Pearce and Alex Newell were season one’s runner-ups, while Damian McGinty and Samuel Larsen won the competition. Pearce and Newell just ended their run on Glee, while McGinty and Larsen are getting ready to make their debut.
Ryan Murphy and Dante Di Loreto are attached to the project as executive producers again this season alongside Michael Davis and Shauna Minoprio of Embassy Row. Murphy is also working as a casting director alongside Robert Ulrich. The Glee Project is currently wrapping up auditions around the country. Zach Woodlee, Glee’s resident choreographer, will return to train the contestants while Nikki Anders works as a vocal coach.
“The Glee Project is a special show that has tapped into a desire in our culture to watch people go for and achieve their dreams,” Oxygen President Jason Klarman said in a statement.
Glee is still one of Fox’s biggest comedies, even as storylines die off and characters leave the show. Will you be tuning into The Glee Project’s second season?
