Yet another familiar name from the DC Comics series "Green Arrow" is making their way from the page to the small screen. TV Guide reports that Colton Haynes ('Teen Wolf') has joined the cast of 'Arrow' as the character Roy Harper, known to comic book fans as Oliver Queen's longtime sidekick Speedy.
The character of Harper first appeared as Speedy way back in 1941, in issue #73 of "More Fun Comics." Since then, Harper has also been known by the names Arsenal and the less-than-creative Red Arrow. The character is most famous for a controversial 1971 story arc called "Snowbirds Don't Fly," where Green Arrow and Green Lantern learn that Roy "Speedy" Harper is addicted to heroin. The storyline earned acclaim for being the first mainstream superhero comic book to tackle the issue of street drugs.
This is where things get confusing, regarding CW's 'Arrow:' hasn't Oliver been calling his sister Speedy since they were kids?
The official description for the TV version of Harper calls him, "a handsome, street-savvy, teenager from 'the Glades,' the harsh, poverty-stricken portion of Starling City" and the character description also lists that Harper is being brought in as a love interest for Oliver's sister, Thea (played by Willa Holland).
How will Harper fit into the 'Arrow' mythos? If he is a potential ally of Oliver... where's Diggle? 'Arrow's anticipated midseason finale airs tonight at 8:00pm on CW.
