It’s called synergy.

A trailer for TBS’ geek reality competition “King of the Nerds” will appear during previews before Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit.”
The clip features the 11 contestants of the show who will compete to become the monarch of nerd culture. There will also be challenges, including a ginormous chess game, a debate (hopefully rivaling that of James Carville and Frank the Tank), live gaming and, of course, a dance- off.
Competitors will work as teams before competing in individual challenges to win a $100,000 prize.
Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong (who starred in “Revenge of the Nerds” along with Anthony Edwards, who presumably was busy/ above this show) will host the program. It was recently announced that Star Trek’s George Takei along with Kevin Smith and his stoner muse Jason Mewes will be judges on the show.
Smith and Mewes appeared together in films such as “Clerks” and “Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back.” Smith is also a noted comic book enthusiast. Takei has also booked a guest appearance on “Hawaii Five-0.”
The series, which will run for eight episodes, will premiere Thursday, Jan. 17, at 10 p.m. ET on TBS. You can get a sneak- peek here:
