ABC has a bad case of Bieber fever.
The network is looking to team with the Canadian musician on a new sitcom based on his life. The single-camera comedy was initially discussed during the 2011 development cycle, as a multi-camera project. But now that ABC is going ahead with it (they have made a script commitment), it has changed formats.
The comedy, which does not have a title, will be a family show that highlights Bieber's unique background, where his mother and grandparents raised him. The star of the show will also be a teenaged musician who hits it big.
Bieber and his manager, Scooter Braun, will executive produce the project with ABC Studios. Matt Wolpert (Entourage, My Name is Early) and Ben Nedivi (Entourage, Wicked Little Things) are attached to the project as writers.
It seems like Bieber has some staying power. Initially I thought he would fade away, but it seems like he might be headed for a Justin Timberlake-type career. I am not sure where his involvement with the series will extend to – if ABC can talk him into appearing on the show, that would be a huge get. What do you think of this news? Will you check out this show?
Sure glad you put J.B.'s name in the title. . . . that way I know not to read this crap!
