“American Idol” season eight runner up Adam Lambert is ready to prove that he is more than just a pretty face and a passing fad. Despite his almost over-night success due to his “Idol” popularity, Lambert is exploring his career outside of only singing tonight in his debut role as a host in “VH1 Divas” playing on VH1 at 9pm.
His hosting duties will include everything from performances with fellow “Idol” alumni’s Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks to funny skits with “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Ne Ne Leakes. Lambert is confident about his talents, but admittedly is also a little bit nervous about his comedic debut. “We've pre-recorded a sketch that's quite funny," he says. "I haven't seen the final edit yet so I hope I'm actually funny ... But we had so much fun filming it so I think people will get a kick out of it."
Lambert also promises that he will be pulling out all the wardrobe stops for “VH1 Divas” and viewers can expect to see his unique sense of style shine throughout the night. “A lot of the ideas for how I’ll be dressed are mine. Some of them I wish I could blame on somebody else, but I can't."
“VH1 Divas” will also be paying tribute to Donna Summer and Whitney Houston, ultimate divas who both passed away this year. In a tribute to honor Summer, Lambert will be singing alongside Kelly Rowland and Keri Hilson and he is excited about how they will be able to broadcast their talents to new audiences through their performance together. “I'm doing a medley of songs by Donna Summer and they're both fantastic singers,” he said. “For my own musical performances there's dancers involved and a few of them are actually good friends of mine. So it will be fun to be on stage with close friends. It always makes for a better experience when you're connecting with the people that you're sharing a stage with.”
Lambert is thrilled for the opportunity and honor of hosting the VH1 special and is feeling calm, cool and confident about tonight. "I was so excited when the opportunity presented itself,” he says. "I was pretty flattered. Obviously they trust me and they have faith that I am going to be able to handle it and that kind of trust gives me confidence."
