Just last week How I Met Your Mother Star Jason Segel came to the aid of one of his biggest fans. Chelsea Gill made a YouTube video of a song she wrote asking her favorite actor (Segel) for a drink. Segel, who does not take his celebrity too seriously, responded to the video with an invitation to the Chicago Film Critics Awards as his date.
Co-stars Neil Patrick Harris and Cobie Smulders told Access Hollywood that this isn’t out of character for the actor. Smulders went as far to call Segel “the nicest guy ever.” It’s likely Gill would agree. Segel told the entertainment show that he didn’t think it was going above and beyond, just duty calling. He couldn’t reject her after seeing the video, though he think “date” isn’t exactly the word to call their time together.
“I wouldn’t necessarily call it a date, but a very, very nice girl wrote a really cool song and she asked if I would have a drink with her. How do you say no to that?” He said. “I think you have to say yes. It was so gutsy!”
Though Gill claimed to be his biggest fan, he never felt threatened by her love. When asked if he took a body guard along, he laughed and said it wasn’t necessary because he “trusted her.”
Now that Segel made headlines with his courageous move, can we expect a string of pleads for dates with celebrities? Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake both accepted dates to the marine ball in recent months, further proving that social networks can connect you with your favorite stars.
