NBC has shown faith in the comedy of Al Roker.

The Peacock Network has put “The Fosters” into development. It is a comedy co- written by and starring Gary Anthony Williams (“Weeds”). Roker (co- host and producer of NBC’s “Today”) will executive produce.
Williams will co- write the project with Sindy McKay. It is based on an idea by the two and Larry Swerdlove and Scott Ward, which would have Williams as a father with numerous foster children.
Roker became involved with the project because of personal experience with foster children.
Roker and Tracie Brennan will executive produce, and McKay, Swerdlove and Ward will co- exec produce.
Williams also co- starred in the Greg Daniels comedy pilot “Friday Night Dinner” on NBC last season.
Williams also recently sold projects to Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. He recurs on “Raising Hope” on Fox and “Soul Man” on TV Land, and recurred on Fox’s “Malcolm in the Middle.”
Do not confuse this project with “The Fosters,” which is about a lesbian couple raising their own and foster children and is exec produced by Jennifer Lopez.
Williams is represented by ROAR, Buchwalkd/ Fortitude and attorney Lev Ginsburg.
