Will ABC Family pilot “Socio” make it to the air in the wake of the Connecticut shooting tragedy?

The project, which is dark compared to what ABC Family usually airs, centers on Danny (Avan Jogia), a convicted murderer who killed his aunt five years earlier, and was recently released from custody. He says he had reasoning for the murder, which he has not yet revealed. When he returns to his hometown to attend high school and reconnects with his two female best friends, a fellow student is murdered and he becomes the prime suspect.
The network is owned by Disney, leading to speculation about the program’s fate.
The gunman in Newtown, Connecticut murdered 27 people, including 20 children. The man was 20 years old.
Adam Milch (“Greek”) wrote the pilot. He will also co-executive produce alongside Gavin Polone.
Along with “Socio,” ABC Family has ordered several pilots this season. They include “The Fosters” from Jennifer Lopez, and “Terminales,” which is an adaptation of a Mexican series on Televisa and is currently wrapping post-production;. “Pretty Little Liars,” “Switched at Birth” and “The Lying Game” have also been renewed.
A&E also had a trailer for the unfortunately- timed “Psycho” prequel “Bates Motel” released today.
