Jack Black doing paranormal web series

Black

Jack Black is taking his comedy in a new direction - into the realm of the paranormal.

His production company Electric Dynamite will team with Shine America for a new comedy web series called 'Ghost Ghirls' that deals with the spirit world.

The series will be done in 12 episodes with each lasting around 10 minutes and will debut in early 2013 on Yahoo! Screen. Molly Shannon, Jason Schwartzman and Jake Johnson are among the celebrities that will show up during the season, which is filming is Los Angeles.

The concept was created by Maria Blasucci, Amanda Lund and Jeremy Konner. It will feature two young ladies who fight ghosts (played by Lind and Blasucci) who try to solve the mysteries around their paranomal encounters.

Konner, Lund and Blasucci will be the  executive producers, with Black and Priyanka Mattoo attached as executive producers. Konner will be directing.

"People are passionate about the space. It's fun, it's interactive, it's bite-sized; you don't have to spend a lifetime to consume it," Vivi Zigler, president, Shine America Shine 360° and digital president, said about taking content into the digital arena. "We hope to make people laugh, that's first. If you make good content the business part tends to follow."

While Yahoo! is distributing the series in the United States, 'Ghost Ghirls' may seek other distribution overseas - including potentially landing on television networks abroad. Without seeing the tone of the series, it certainly seems like something that would appear on Adult Swim, doesn't it?

Black said that "Ghost Ghirls is the funniest idea for a TV show that we've seen since I've been in the business."
