ABC's 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' pilot nabs 'Nashville' actress Chloe Bennet

One of the most anticipated shows of the upcoming fall season is Joss Whedon's Avengers spin-off series S.H.I.E.L.D., which focuses on the military organization of the same name. For a spin-off of the highest-grossing film of 2012, the series has a cast of relative unknowns -- only Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson from The Avengers) is anything close to a big name. Ming-Na Wen, Elizabeth Henstridge, Brett Dalton, and Iain De Caestecker round out the rest of the cast, save for one final role, which was filled on Wednesday -- 'Nashville' actress Chloe Bennet has been cast in the role of Skye.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the character of Skye is "a confident woman who is slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exist within it. She's edgy and can out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature." She's also described as "bubbly and goofy" but "also warm, edgy, and witty."

Bennet -- sometimes credited as Chloe Wang -- has recently featured on the ABC series Nashville as record company assistant Hailey. S.H.I.E.L.D. will be Bennet's first starring role on a television series. Prior to Nashville, Bennet has very little acting experience, other than a role in the TV movie 'Intercept' and a one-episode stint on the Nick Cannon-starring series 'The Nightlife.'

And lets not forget Ming-na's runs on Eureka, Two And A Half Men and, particularly, her 5 year run on ER.  In fact, when I saw the part about only Clark Gregg being anything close to a big name, followed immediately by Ming-na's name, my first thought was "Is he kidding?  Ming-na is a *huge* name...and who is Clark Gregg?".  A quick trip to the IMDB, though, indicates he is indeed something of a big name (I recognize his face, not his name), though I haven't seen many of the things he's done.

Actually Ming-Na done great on Stargate: Universe. I even say her performance was on par with spectacular Robert Carlyle.

I wonder why Chloe choose to use her mothers name as stage name ? Does he wanted to distance herself from stereotypes for Chinese ? Or is it because she doesn't look obviously Asian and common people hearing Wang name will not associate it with her face ? TV world is truly crazy place with bizarre and illogical customs like changing names.
