Over 32,000 people have signed an online White House petition to have Piers Morgan deported from the United States due to his call for stricter gun control in America.
In the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut massacre, Morgan has taken an outspoken and aggressive stand for more rigorous gun control laws in the USA. On his CNN program 'Piers Morgan Tonight,' he spoke to a gun advocate named Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America. The interview devolved to the point where Morgan called Pratt an "unbelievably stupid man." In Morgan's defense, that guy made Forrest Gump look like a candidate for MENSA.
Alleging that Morgan is "engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment," the petition has been available for twenty-four hours and has already surpassed the common 25,000 plateau for the majority of White House petitions.
"We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his efforts to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national television host to stage attacks against the rights of the American citizens," the petition continues.
Morgan responded by reminding Americans that he is not attacking the Constitution and feels like a ban on only the large, assault-style military grade weaponry would not infringe on the rights of the American people. He also quipped that it was ironic that, in their zeal to defend the Second Amendment rights, the petitioners are asking for America to infringe upon Morgan's First Amendment rights.
On Twitter, Morgan also had one more message for Americans who wish to see the British ex-pat deported: "Bring it on."
Way to rage against the machine from your anonymous internet post!
I'm with MCW here. This whole thing is preposterous. I don't even like Piers Morgan, but it takes a profound amount of cognitive dissonance to rail against a guy for attacking your second amendment freedoms, while denying him his own first amendment rights. Not to mention that giving the government the power to deport someone for expressing an unpopular opinion opens a gigantic can of worms.
Don't you love hypocrites (I'm talking about those folks wanting to deport him - he's right... the first amendment was first for a reason...)
