After two seasons (and one miniseries), Starz' 'Spartacus' series is heading towards its conclussion as the war between the rebels and the Roman army wages on.
The premiere of the final season, named 'Spartacus: War of the Damned,' is still a month away, but Starz wants to get anticipation amped up now for the finale. It has released a new trailer, chocked full of the action and gladiator drama that has created so much love for the series.
Starz has released a description for the final season, which says that:
"The season opens and Gaius Claudius Glaber is dead. Many months have passed since his defeat, and the rebel army, led by Spartacus and his generals Crixus, Gannicus and Agron continue to amass victories over Rome. With the rebel numbers swelling to thousands of freed slaves, and Spartacus more determined than ever to bring down the entire Roman Republic, the horde become a force that challenges even the mighty armies of Rome. Together, the rebels engage in one bloody skirmish after another and prepare for the inevitable: a full out war."
Liam McIntyre returns as Spartacus after taking over the role in 'Spartacus: Vengeance' following the tragic death of Andy Whitfield. The trailer can be seen below. What do you think?
There a few other related videos (The Romans, The Rebels, Strategy of War, ...).
Interesting how they're going to explore (in fiction) the relationship between Crassus (Rome's wealthiest man, Consul and a de facto leader of Rome), a young Caesar (the first Emperor), and Tiberius (the Emperor who would consolidate the position) as they quell the rebellion. Three generations of executive power in a nascent empire.
They have managed the "Titanic effect" very well. We all know how it's going to end, yet we keep watching and rooting for the underdog: it's all in the journey.
