Soap star switching sides

An Emmy-award winning actor will not be out of work very long, as Steve Burton, who starred on ABC's 'General Hospital' as Jason Morgan from 1991 to 2000, briefly in 2001, and from 2002 to this year before quitting the show three months ago, has landed on his feet on CBS' 'The Young and the Restless.'

Burton stars work soon on 'The Young and the Restless,' where he will be reunited with his former boss as 'General Hospital,' Jill Farren Phelps, who now works an executive producer on the CBS series.

The news is not entirely unexpected. Burton and Phelps are close friends and business associates who are currently developing a telenovela project together. Fans expected Burton to pop up in Genoa City before too long - just maybe not this quickly.

Burton bailed on 'General Hospital' because he did not want to live in Los Angeles anymore and relocated his family to Nashville. But now he is back working in Los Angeles for 'The Young and the Restless,' - maybe he was not that up front with his reasons for wanting out? And did Stephen Nichols (Tucker) receive his 'The Young and the Restless' punk slip so the series would have the money for Burton? If so, will 'General Hospital' snap Nichols up?

Interesting times in the soap world.
