Here's an odd one for you: the planned spinoff of 'The Office' about Dwight's farm (creatively titled 'The Farm') which was cancelled back in October before ever being aired is now coming to your television screens... as an episode of 'The Office.'

The NBC mockumentary 'The Office' seemingly ran out of ideas a full season ago, and the fact that a pilot for a completely different series will now be folded into the line-up of 'Office' episodes seems to back up that conclusion. The fact that 'The Farm's backdoor-pilot was not picked up and was never even given the opportunity to impress an audience had many believing that the episode was too atrocious to air; either NBC has had a change of heart about the project, or it was never as bad as we assumed. We'll soon find out, as in 2013 you can expect your getaway to majestic Schrute Farms, the number one beet-related agrotourism destination in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The episode centers on Dwight Scrute (Rainn Wilson, playing the character he has helmed since 2005) taking charge of the Schrute Farms Bed & Breakfast. Joining Dwight was the previously-unseen Schrute extended family including a Great Uncle who may have been a member of the Nazi party.
The pilot will have to be somewhat re-tooled in order to mesh into the expectations of an 'Office' episode. No word yet on if 'The Farm' pilot will be shortened or if additional material featuring the other 'Office' characters will be produced in addition.
'The Farm' episode of 'The Office' will air in 2013; judge for yourself if Dwight's spin-off could have been as successful as 'Frasier' after 'Cheers.'
Yeah, I think that was the original plan Hamato, but now they're re-editing it and shooting new scenes so it will fit in the overall chronology of the final season. I think it was intended to be one of those spin-off eps that are pretty much an episode of the original show in name only, such as that one weird episode of Married With Children about Bud and Steve Rhoades at the college radio station, surrounded by brand new characters. Now it seems the plan is to re-make it into a full fledged Office episode. Or at least that's what I got out of the story.
Wasn't that the original idea for it? I thought the pilot was always going to be an episode of the Office and then it was going to splinter off from there?
